The colon is the last five feet of the digestive tract, or large intestines. This important organ resembles a hollow tube made up of muscle that moves digested food and waste along by a wave-like motion called peristalsis. The main function of the colon is to absorb water, electrolytes and some vitamins as well as prepare and store fecal waste prior to elimination. The colon is one of the body’s main tool for the elimination of waste. When movements are regular, the waste products eliminate smoothly.

Eating a fiber-rich diet is very important for keeping regular. Foods like whole grains and vegetables are packed with fiber to help keep waste moving through your system and prevent you from getting backed up!

Proper Hydration
Staying hydrated is a key component to proper waste removal from the body. Water helps move waste materials along and is absorbed throughout the entire length of your colon.
